The Growing Pains of New Condominium Regulations

Posted on February 14, 2020 by AREA Communications

On January 1, 2020, the government brought new condominium regulations into effect, but many groups are playing catch up. In addition to getting up to speed with the new government rules, condo boards have the additional hurdle of consolidating their own rules and getting them to owners and occupants before April, at which time any rule not shared becomes invalid and of no force or effect. With a lot on the go, some groups and providers have had difficulties adapting to the new regulations all at once.

Have you Seen Unfair Condo Practices?

The new rules have led to some growing pains while organizations get up to date and into compliance. If you have run into, or think you have run into, a corporation not playing by the new rules, please touch base with AREA’s Advocacy team at advocacy@albertarealtor.ca and we can help review the situation on a case-by-case basis.

Our membership work and live in Alberta, which we acknowledge as the traditional and ancestral lands of many peoples presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8 – namely the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika), the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda and the Tsuu T’ina Nation, and the Métis People of Alberta. We recognize the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today, and those who have gone before. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those on whose territory we reside.
