Al Larson Memorial Scholarship

Al's commitment to both his industry and community has inspired the benchmarks for this scholarship through the Alberta Real Estate Association. It is our belief that the successful candidate is involved in a wide range of activities that extends further than academics.

We will be selecting two Al Larson Memorial Scholarship recipients to help the children or grandchildren of an Alberta REALTOR® based on the student's performance in academics and extra-curricular activities:

  • One student accepted into a university program.
  • One student accepted into a college or technical school program.

$2,500 towards your first year of study

You can put towards your very first year of college or university studies. Use the $2,500 to cover tuition fees, purchase essential textbooks, invest in necessary study materials.

Scholarship Criteria

The Al Larson Memorial Scholarship was created to help the children or grandchildren of an Alberta REALTOR® having achieved first-time acceptance and entering their first year of study.

  • Applicants must be a child or grandchild of an AREA member.
  • Applicants must submit a copy of their current or most recent transcript.

Selection Criteria

Scholarships are awarded based on a combination of a student's performance in academics and extra-curricular activities - such as fine arts, athletics, charitable works, and volunteerism - during their high school years.

History

Al Larson was a dedicated REALTOR® and administrator who spent 41 years in the real estate industry. He served as AREA's executive vice president from 1976 until his retirement in 1990.

Al never sought out public recognition, making his generous contribution of time, energy and expertise behind the scenes. Highly respected, Al's statesmanship and outstanding leadership benefited organized real estate across Canada.

Al was an honorary life member of AREA, the Canadian Real Estate Association, and the Edmonton, Calgary and West Central Alberta real estate boards. He died suddenly at a CREA conference in October 1991.

Our membership work and live in Alberta, which we acknowledge as the traditional and ancestral lands of many peoples presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8 – namely the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika), the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda and the Tsuu T’ina Nation, and the Métis People of Alberta. We recognize the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today, and those who have gone before. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those on whose territory we reside.
