AREA-CREB® Consolidation Plan Update

Posted on November 15, 2022 by AREA Communications in News

We have received many questions around the AREA/CREB® consolidation plan and how it will affect members of other local Boards/Associations. The short answer: it won’t.

If the plan is approved by CREB® members in March, AREA’s Foothills region (CREB®) members will continue to pay for and receive the same provincial services as all other AREA members. They will additionally pay a board services fee, that will include Pillar9TM and lockbox access.

CREB® members will benefit in two main ways:

  1. Reduced Fees: A consolidation would reduce operational duplication and overhead costs between the two organizations. Those savings would be passed directly to the members.
  2. Choice: Members will be able to choose between two tiers of service – premium and core – allowing them to prioritize what matters most to them.

Signature CREB® events, such as the CREB® Forecast, will continue, and a localized Calgary-region voice on industry issues will be organized through a Foothills Region Premium Services Advisory Group.

AREA and CREB® will be rolling out details on the plan in January. In the coming weeks, we will share a timeline that will include several CREB® member engagement opportunities.

AREA respects that members of each local Board/Association are the ones that should be making decisions about the structure and services of their boards. While CREB® members have consistently signalled their openness to streamline duplication and bureaucratic layers in organized real estate, other regions may have different preferences, including maintaining separation between the local and provincial bodies.

AREA remains open to any discussions with its members and its member Boards/ Associations on how best to support Alberta REALTORS®.

Our membership work and live in Alberta, which we acknowledge as the traditional and ancestral lands of many peoples presently subject to Treaties 6, 7, and 8 – namely the Blackfoot Confederacy (Kainai, Piikani, and Siksika), the Cree, Dene, Saulteaux, Nakota Sioux, Stoney Nakoda and the Tsuu T’ina Nation, and the Métis People of Alberta. We recognize the many First Nations, Métis and Inuit who have cared for these lands for generations. We are grateful for the traditional Knowledge Keepers and Elders who are still with us today, and those who have gone before. We make this acknowledgement as an act of reconciliation and gratitude to those on whose territory we reside.
