The Alberta Real Estate Association and its members have never experienced a pandemic. The extreme measures required to limit the outbreak will have a significant effect on business. Country after country, and city after city have ground to a halt and the after-effects are expected to last into 2021. These extraordinary times call for extraordinary measures.
The AREA board met earlier today and approved the following measures to assist members:
These measures are in addition to the $2 million investment in AREA’s Commission Protection Program earlier this year, that will safeguard members’ hard-earned commissions. By utilizing AREA reserves, we can provide a small relief to members as we all look for ways to weather the COVID-19 storm.
AREA will also continue to advocate for additional ways government can provide relief to small business owners, specifically REALTORS®, including bridge financing and grants. Currently government assistance includes the deferment of income tax payments and utility bills, expanded eligibility for employment insurance, and supplementing employee wages for small businesses.
Visit AREA’s COVID-19 webpage regularly for the latest on best practices, tips and, and member and government resources to help you navigate this challenging time.
As REALTORS® serving REALTORS®, we welcome your feedback. Please reach out if you have ideas for how AREA can better assist members during this pandemic.
